Garbage Bag Gala
In my role as a Communications Manager for The Salvation Army's Midwest Division, I worked to develop an annual event to raise funds for The Salvation Army's homeless programs. Our concept, the Garbage Bag Gala, launched in 2012.
We paired designers with social media influencers and journalists and asked the designers to develop stylish runway-ready outfits for their partners out of trash bags and duct tape.
The event raised $20,000 in one night and was a case study in social collaboration in the name of doing good. With a laundry list of partners and collaborators including Social Media Club, Moonrise Hotel, Hardees, Patch.com, Hoffman Lewis, DJ Epic, Andreea Cojocariu, Frostbite and others, we were able to raise much-needed funds for a truly worthy cause, and to spread the word of the life-changing work that’s happening throughout the region.
